David Corless has been a consultant for 17 years and has specialised in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery. He qualified as Bachelor of Medicine (MB) and Bachelor of Surgery (ChB) in 1985 and was also awarded a BSc in Neurophysiology as a result of research funding from the MRC. David became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1990 and in 1996 passed the Intercollegiate (Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Glasgow) Fellowship in General Surgery. In 1997 he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Birmingham for his thesis on gastric cancer.
His publications include over 30 journal articles in addition to book chapters and several international presentations. David sits on several audit committees and has chaired the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network and Oesophagogastric clinical groups of Greater Manchester and Cheshire. He received a number of qualifications and awards and trained in London at several major hospitals including The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
As a private consultant he has consulted at 132 Harley Street London and performed operations at the Harley Street Clinic.
Since relocating to the North West David has performed major complex cancer and bariatric work at University Hospital North Staffordshire NHS Trust and emergency and elective surgery at Mid Cheshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Within the NHS he currently manages complex surgery, day cases and endoscopy.
David has been appointed as Associate Medical Director for all surgical specialties whilst continuing to be the lead clinician for upper GI surgery in his hospital.
As a Founder Member of Alliance Surgical, the largest peer selected group of independent specialists in the UK he remains at the forefront of advanced and specialist surgery.
Currently David offers private surgery where appropriate whilst maintaining a busy NHS schedule. Most surgery is routine and, although clearly needing to be performed to exacting and high standards, can safely be performed privately. Choosing private surgery allows a choice of when and where your operation is done and by whom.
